The NEO blockchain gaming platform, BlaCat, has just recently announced the open beta of NEO.Girl. NEO.Girl is a dating simulation game that combines virtual reality, non-fungible blockchain assets, and artificial intelligence. The game was developed by YYMOON Network and made its first debut during the very first NEO Game Development Competition which ran from May to August 2018.
NEO.Girl was received well and earned a reward of ¥500,000 in prize money along with bagging the competition’s art award. The board of judges deemed the game worthy of the award because of its design and animation, visual experience and for having the highest artistic value throughout the entire narrative experience. NEO.Girl was able to outperform 46 of the valid entries in the competition.
The game’s backdrop is focused on an AI girl named Luna, a being created by the scientist Dr. Wattman. According to the developers, Luna closely mimics human sentience as she can talk, eat, exercise and do anything that ordinary humans can do. The gameplay is open-ended as the primary objective is to simply cultivate a friendly – and maybe even a romantic – relationship with Luna.
Its core mechanics are focused more on increasing Luna’s fondness towards the player and taking care of her daily routine, including feeding her, purchasing new clothes for her, and dressing her up. The two main in-game currencies available are bubbles and diamonds. They can be spent to unlock more content for the game including new storylines and exclusive items.
The heart of the game’s design is all based on affection. In fact, it could even be described as the game’s primary social aspect. For instance, the player can create a boyfriend avatar who can begin to explore a romantic connection with Luna, which in turn also interacts with the game’s system. The complete life cycle, including death and procreation, are also available in-game.
Genetic inheritance is also featured in NEO.Girl and allows players to pass on their unique gene code to the next generation. These gene codes will determine the physical characteristics of the girl such as her hair color, eye color, height, and so on. All of these genetic features will be saved in the blockchain immutably along with any other in-game purchases made by the player.
These are considered as virtual assets which means that their security is essentially guaranteed and they will be preserved in the blockchain so that their value may potentially appreciate all as part of a bigger collection. Outfits, accessories and other in-game items will also play a pivotal role in NEO.Girl’s ecosystem and economy.
The game will mint 4000 pieces of limited edition clothing that can be purchased and sold in the in-game Trading Mall once they are released. The clothing items will eventually become non-fungible assets whose value will appreciate as long as the number of users increase.
The beta started on December 24th and will continue until December 30th. Players will only have until the end of December 30th to sign up and provide their feedback. Once the game is launched, all game data in the beta test will be immediately erased, although some rewards that are available for beta players will get carried over.
